Great sesshins

The Hudson River Zen Center holds great zen retreats at The Oaks on Long Island Sound.

A zen retreat, or sesshin, is a three, five or seven day intensive meditation retreat that implies a great committment to one´s practice and willingness to resolve "the great matter".

What this "great matter" is is, in itself, a burning question.

The great matter is life and death. Consciously or not, it is humanity´s great concern.

So, when one gets to the meditative level of Samadhi, the dropping off of the body and the mind, as stated by Dogen Zenji, the great Japanese philosopher, one gets to the point in which one sees clearly that the great matter is resolved.

Grover Genro Gauntt, Roshi, and Paco Genkoji Lugoviña, Sensei, do a great job.
