| Yahoo! Answers: What is your definition of spirituality? I was a little irked when someone here said atheists couldn't be spiritual, but I didn't have a working definition to argue with. For lack of a better term I consider myself very spiritual, just minus the supernatural stuff. My definition is to connect my psyche to something greater than myself and be the better for it. I do this through exploring nature. When I'm camping I have to be aware of the time of day to decide when to set up camp. I have to feel the changes in the weather. I have to listen to the animals around me. Once I "become one" with nature I have heightened senses; sunsets are more beautiful, sounds are clearer, etc, and I feel as if I have a connection with my surroundings. Afterwards I feel better than if I spent that time indoors. Is this spirituality? Can sailors achieve this by becoming one with the ocean? Cosmologists with the stars? Cowboys while sensing the slight variations in his horse's behavior? I'm guessing this is the same thing people talk about when they talk about their personal relationship with god. The summit of spirituality can be summited from different paths. Your thoughts? |
