Is Buddhism right for me?

I wanna know as much as possible about Buddhism before I go and decide to research it. I was wondering about the basics. I have heard that it is very spiritual and calming but of course its a hard religion to follow like many others. With Christianity there is no proof of anything and the only theory in it is "the bible says so" what is the theory in Buddhism and reincarnation? What are the basic principles and laws of Buddhism, and what type of life should one lead? What are Buddhist gatherings like, and is this religion limited to a certain culture.
